This program provides financial support to eligible North Dakota veterans, their spouses, and un-remarried surviving spouses of veterans, as defined in NDCC 37-14 and NDCC 37-14-01.1. Its purpose is to offer aid and comfort by addressing urgent, unmet needs.
Covered Needs Include
- Dental or denture work (excluding routine or maintenance procedures)
- Optical and hearing assistance
- Transportation for medical treatment
- Medically necessary special needs
- Housing deposits
- Other emergency needs approved by the Commissioner of Veterans Affairs
Eligibility Requirements (Documentation Required)
- Must qualify as a veteran or eligible dependent under NDCC 37-14-01.1
- Must meet income and asset thresholds based on annually reviewed indexes (e.g., pension rates, poverty guidelines)
- Must be a North Dakota resident for at least one year prior to applying
- Medical bills must show completed work and be submitted within 60–90 days of approval, including all payments and credits
