Registered Cass County. Born, Enderlin, N. Dak., Aug. 9, 1891, of German parents. Occupation - farmer. Inducted at Fargo on Sept. 22, 1917. Sent to Camp Dodge, Iowa. Served in Supply Company, 352nd Infantry, to Nov. 29, 1917; Headquarters Company, 347th Infantry, to June 10, 1918; June Automatic Replacement Draft, Camp Merritt, N. J., to July 8, 1918; Company K, 163rd Infantry, to July 20, 1918; Machine Gun Company, 101st Infantry, to death. Grades: Corporal, Jan. 1, 1918; Sergeant, April 12, 1918; Private, June 1, 1918. Overseas from June 20, 1918, to death. Engagements: Offensives: Aisne-Marne; St. Mihiel; Meuse-Argonne. Defensive Sectors: Ansauville and Saizerais (Lorraine).
