Biography:

Ernest Michael Holzemer was born in White Lake Township, Slope County, North Dakota to John Peter Holzemer and Susan Elizabeth Ficker Holzemer on March 25, 1916. He entered the United States Army at Fort Snelling, Minnesota on April 30, 1941. Staff Sergeant Holzemer served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and was killed in action on February 20, 1945, in Leyte, Philippines. He is buried at Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, Plot B, Row 12, Grave, 123, Manila, Capital District, National Capital Region, Philippines. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, and the Purple Heart.
