Biography:

George Frank Haider was born on September 21, 1892, in St. Anthony, Morton County, North Dakota to Frank Haider and Katharina Helfrich Haider.  (parents were born in Austria). Occupation - farmer. He was inducted at Mandan, Morton County, North Dakota on July 22, 1918. Entered the United States Army and was sent to Camp Custer, Michigan. He served in the 12th Company, 3rd Battalion, 160th Depot Brigade, to August 14, 1918; Company No. 1, 77th Infantry, to death. He died on October 6, 1918, from the Spanish Flu at Camp Custer, Charleston, Kalamazoo County, Michigan and was the first person from North Dakota to die from the Spanish Flu. He is buried at St. Anthony Cemetery, St. Anthony, Morton County, North Dakota. The war ended four weeks later on November 11, 1918.
