Biography:

Herbert Irving Gentz was born in New England, Hettinger County, North Dakota on April 13, 1924, to Herbert William Gentz and Mary Angela Gehr Gentz. Private First Class Gentz entered the United States Army at Fort Snelling, Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 11, 1943, and served in the European African Middle Eastern Theater. He was killed in action in the English Channel in Belgium, Europe on December 25, 1944, and is buried in Lot 6, Block 45, Grave 3, New England Cemetery, New England, North Dakota. He was married to Carmen Deloris Steinbrecker, the daughter of Adolph and Louise Helen Steinbrecker of New England, North Dakota, on March 18, 1944, in Laramie, Albany County, Wyoming.
