Biography:

Mayo Leifur Johnson was born in Pembina, Pembina County, North Dakota on May 26, 1922, to Gunnlaugur Tryggvi "Gunni" Johnson and Victoria Gudbjorg Leifur Johnson. He entered the United States Army at Fort Snelling, Minnesota on November 19, 1942, and served in the European African Middle Eastern Theater. Second Lieutenant Johnson was killed in action on November 5, 1944, in Luxembourg, Germay. Burial is Riverside Cemetery, Southpark Section W, Lot 106, Fargo, North Dakota.
