Biography:

Corporal Orlo Anderson was born in Marion, North Dakota, on October 7, 1917, to Mr. and Mrs. Minius Anderson. He was a resident of Sargent County, North Dakota when he entered AUS Ft. Snelling, Minn on July 7, 1942. On November 24, 1944 he was on a Beechcraft AT-11 Kansan #41-27522 that flew to Lake Charles Army Airfield, Louisiana on an instructional flight. While returning to base at Bryan, Texas, the aircrew encountered instrument flying conditions. Then the starboard motor quit, and the pilot trimmed the airplane for single engine operation and dove to a lower elevation. Encountering heavy rain, the remaining motor quit and the pilot called for the crew to bail out. Only one airman successfully parachuted out and survived before the airplane went into a dive and crashed, eight miles west of Trinity, Texas. Orlo Anderson was married to the former Ruth Starr and they share son Roland. He is buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Marion, North Dakota.
