Born Charlson ND November 29, 1921. Resident of McKenzie County, North Dakota. Entered US Navy Minneapolis Minnesota on October 7, 1940 Serviced Asiatic Pacific Theater. KIA December 7, 1941 on board the USS Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Remains not recovered.

Memorialized at the USS Arizona.

American Legion Post 290 in Newton ND named "Richard Stanton Sherven Post".
