Biography:

Private Robert Carroll Thompson was born in Geddes, Charles Mix County, South Dakota on January 17, 1892. He entered the United State Army in South Dakota and served in the 339th Field Artillery Regiment, 88th Division. Private Thompson was killed in action on October 23, 1918, and is buried at the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery and Memorial, Belleau, Department de l'Aisne, Picardie, France, Plot B, Row 8, Grave 31. 

Private Thompson has strong ties to North Dakota in both education and public roles including his brother as the past post commander in the American Legion and past president of the North Dakota Education Association.
