Carroll George McGarvey was born in Lake Ibsen Township, Benson County, North Dakota on March 9, 1927. He entered the United States Navy in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota on November 8, 1944, and served in Asiatic Pacific Theater. Seaman Second Class McGarvey was killed in action on June 5, 1945, in the South Pacific and is buried in Plot 4, Grave 7, Section B, Leeds Lutheran Cemetery, Leeds, Benson County, North Dakota.
