Private First Class Jansonius arrived in Vietnam on October 15, 1967, and was assigned to B Company, 2nd Battalion, 560th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division, United States Army Vietnam (USARV) and later was assigned to Battalion Recon, 2nd Battalion, 60th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division, United States Army Vietnam (USARV).

David Johnson graduated from high school in 1969 and enlisted in the United States Army on June 30, 1969, and left on tour November 11, 1969. He was a Veteran of several front-line actions and was wounded while on a mission with the 5th Infantry Regiment of the 25th Division on May 12, 1970, while serving in Cambodia. Five days later, May 17, 1970, in a hospital in Long Binh, Vietnam, he died. He is buried at the Holy Cross Cemetery, in Fargo, Cass County, North Dakota.
