Florian Sticka

Biography:

Florian Sticka was born on April 16, 1921, in New England, Hettinger County, North Dakota to Raphael and Ottilia (Odilia) Frank Sticka. He entered the United States Army at Fort Snelling, Minnesota on October 22, 1942. Corporal Sticka served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and the India-Burma-China Theatres and was killed in action during a flight of the Curtiss C-46A-5-CU #41-12287 from Sookerating Air Base, India to Kunming, China on November 24, 1943. The aircraft was shot down by a Japanese Mitsubishi A6M Zero shortly after clearing the ceiling to clear the mountains.

Served in 15th Company, 4th Battalion, 160th Depot Brigade, to Oct. 1, 1918; 22nd Company, 6th Battalion, 160th Depot Brigade, to death.

Benjamin Emanuel Lawrence

Registered Stutsman county. Born, Courtenay, N. Dak., June 16, 1892, of (nationality of parents not given). Occupation - engineer. Inducted at Jamestown on May 24, 1918. Sent to Camp Lewis, Wash. Served in 14th Company, 4th Battalion, 166th Depot Brigade, to June 16, 1918; Company A, 158th Infantry, to Sept. 20, 1918; Company A, 306th Infantry, to death. Overseas from Aug. 11, 1918, to death. Engagements: Offensive: Meuse-Argonne. Defensive Sector: Foret-d'Argonne (Lorraine).

Otto Leysring

Served in Company G, 2nd Battalion, 163rd Depot Brigade, to April 26, 1918; Company L, 137th Infantry, to death. Overseas from May 3, 1918, to death. Engagements: Offensive: Meuse-Argonne. Defensive Sectors: Gerardmer (Alsace); Grange-le-Comte (Lorraine).

Gordon Harold Powers

Biography:

Registered Stutsman county. Born, Brantford, Ont., Dec. 15, 189. Citizenship, alien. Occupation - mechanic. Enlisted at Fort Snelling, Minn., on Dec. 14, 1917. Served in Company A, 3rd Provisional Ordnance Battalion, to July 29, 1918; Supply Company, 55th Artillery, Coast Artillery Corps, to Aug. 12, 1918; 4th Company, Ordnance Repair Shop Detachment, to Feb. 8, 1919; Ordnance Repair Shops, Motor Transport Corps, to death. Grade: Private 1st Class, Nov. 1, 1918. Overseas from May 26, 1918, to death. Engagement: Defensive Sector: Vesle (Champagne).

Elmer Peterson

Biography:

Registered Stutsman county. Born, Sune, Sweden, July 13, 1890. Naturalized citizen. Occupation - merchant. Inducted at Jamestown on June 27, 1918. Sent to Camp Dodge, Iowa. Served in Headquarters Company, 339th Field Artillery, to death. Overseas from Aug. 24, 1918, to death.

Fremont Wesley Rice

Biography:

Registered Stutsman county. Born, Ruthven, Iowa, Feb. 6, 1896, of American parents. Occupation - farmer. Inducted at Jamestown on June 14, 1918. Sent to North Dakota Agricultural College. Served in Training Detachment, to Aug. 13, 1918; Headquarters Company, 137th Field Artillery, to death. Overseas from Oct. 6, 1918, to death.

Albert Benedict Ries
