Private First Class Joseph Kachena was born in Pisek, ND on April 11, 1907. He was a Walsh County resident when he entered the US Army at Ft Snelling, MN on September 30, 1942. He was killed in action in Germany on April 20, 1945 and is buried in St John's Catholic Cemetery, Pisek, ND.

When Stanley Joseph Julison was born on 28 January 1918, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, United States, his father, Gustav August Julison, was 51 and his mother, Marian Scherer, was 40. He lived in Grand Forks, Grand Forks, North Dakota, United States for about 15 years. He entered the US Navy Minneapolis on September 23, 1943, and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He died on 15 June 1944, at the age of 26 in Oahu, and was buried in National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii, United States
