This book was compiled and published pursuant to Section 37-03-12 of the North Dakota Century Code and Chapter 70, Laws passed at the Fortieth Session of the Legislative Assembly. It is a record of the residents, men and women, of the state of North Dakota who rendered military service on behalf of the State, served in the Merchant Marine and assisted in the administration of the Selective Service Act during World War II and during the Korean Hostilities.
Only those persons who served during the periods 1 January 1941 to 1 January 1946 inclusive and 25 June 1950 to 27 July 1953 inclusive are listed herein. These periods of service have been deemed as wartime service for the purpose of this compilation.
Dates of service are based upon documents submitted by veterans of World War II and the Korean Conflict for payment of bonuses authorized under Chapter 37-21 and 37-23, North Dakota Century Code. Funding provided by the 40th Legislative Assembly precludes any research beyond that compiled by the Veterans Adjusted Compensation Division, an agency terminated 30 June 1963.
