Commissary Steward Second Class Chaussee died in service on September 30, 1945, in Seattle, Washinton, of a brain tumor. Elmer Carpenter was originally from Barton, Pierce County, North Dakota and Saint John, Rolette County, North Dakota. He was the son of Lemuel Seth Carpenter and Lillie M Cameron. His mother had died in 1915 and then his father in 1932. He married Edith Jean Hunt in 1936 and was living in Long Beach, California while in the service.

Earl Oscar Carlson was the son of Henry C. Carlson and Emma C. Fox. He was born and raised in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, and received his grammar school education there. Swedish was spoken in his home growing up and he mastered his native tongue as well as English. He graduated high school as well as graduating a North Dakota Agricultural College.
