As a hydrogeologist with the North Dakota Department of Water Resources, you will have an impact on the sustainable management of groundwater resources, in an environment that provides many opportunities to learn using robust datasets and technology. The management of water rights requires an interdisciplinary approach of water policy, science, and data management.

Minimum Qualifications

A Master of Science degree in hydrogeology, hydrology, geology, engineering, or closely related field plus three years of related experience, or a Bachelor of Science Degree in hydrogeology, hydrology, geology, or closely related field plus five years of related experience. Experience writing technical reports.Ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing, and through public speaking and presentations.Must have a valid driver's license and able and willing to travel as necessary. Ability to safely navigate uneven terrain.

Preferred Qualifications

Groundwater modeling experience (e.g. MODFLOW), and experience with groundwater modeling software (e.g. GMS, Groundwater Vistas, Visual Modflow).Application of groundwater models for use in water resource management decisions.Knowledge of programming language for data analysis (e.g., Python, R) and geographic information systems software.Knowledge of North Dakota water law.Registered as a Professional Engineer in North Dakota.

Aircraft Commander Act as Pilot-in-Command or Second-in-Command to provide aerial transportation for state employees, conduct aerial photography and mapping.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a commercial pilot's certificate with an instrument rating, single-engine land rating, multiengine land rating, and high-altitude endorsement. Minimum of 2nd Class FAA Medical Certificate. Four years of flight experience with minimum of {1200 hours fixed-wing total flight time, of which 1000 hours are as pilot-in-command, 500 hours cross-country time, 250 hours fixed-wing turbine time, 100 hours multiengine airplane time which must be in non-centerline-thrust aircraft and 75 actual or simulated instrument flight hours, 50 of which must have been in actual flight} OR {BE200 trained and checked by an approved facility within the last four years.} Work after hours, weekends, and holidays may be required. Ability to lift and carry items up to 30 pounds.Preference will be given to applicants with experience in: Multiengine Airline Transport Certificate. King Air flight time. 250 Hours multiengine turboprop flight experience within previous five years Civilian flight experience within previous 5 years Maintenance training and/or maintenance experience. FAR Part 91/121/135 crew resource management experience.Applicants will only be considered for PIC if they have attended an approved King Air simulator school within the previous 12 months, are approved for consideration by the Chief Pilot and are approved for PIC duties by aviation insurance underwriter.Candidates' qualifications will be subject to review by Chief Pilot and aviation insurance underwriter.

This position is responsible for collaborating with Insurance Department staff and fellow attorneys to: provide legal advice and opinions for the Insurance Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and other Department employees; advise agency staff on legal matters; draft legislation and legal documents; and represent the Department in regulatory matters including administrative hearings, legislative hearings and litigation in court. The position works under the direction of the Department's General Counsel to provide a wide variety of legal support to the Department staff members. The ideal candidate for this position must enjoy collaborating and interacting with non-attorney subject matter experts, consumer protection professionals and other attorneys. Investigate, perform legal analyses, summarize, and brief insurance agent and company regulatory violations.Conduct legal research relating to the business of insurance and administrative agency regulations.Respond to insurance regulation inquiries from the general public, the insurance industry, and others, and provide guidance.Respond to legal inquiries from North Dakota legislators and legislative council and represent the Department during the regular session and interim session at hearings and committee meetings.Draft and assist other Department staff in drafting legislation and administrative rules.Draft orders and agreements and represent the Department in administrative or civil proceedings or coordinate with outside counselRepresent the Department in judicial proceedings, including administrative hearings, in a competent, effective, and ethical manner.Negotiate resolutions of civil and administrative proceedings.Assist with regulatory examinations of insurance companies.Coordinate work with insurance regulators in other states, other North Dakota agencies, and federal agencies.Keep up to date on state and federal insurance issues, case law, regulations, and practices.
