Bernard Alfred Anderson was born on the family farm in Kandiyohi Township, Burke County, North Dakota on March 25, 1928. He was the first of six children born to Bernard Alfred and Eva Esther (Mott) Anderson. He received the gift of God's saving grace through Holy Baptism on November 4, 1928 at the Nasareth Lutheran Congregation in the Vanville School House. In 1938, the family moved from Kandiyohi Township to Roseland Township and lived on "The Big Spring Place." He attended rural school until the family moved to Kenmare in the early 1940's.

Private Relmond Amsbaugh was a residnet of Bottineau County, North Dakota when he entered the US Army Bottineau County, NDak on November 11, 1943. He served in the European African Middle Eastern Theater and was killed in action on July 12, 1944 in France.
