Orlin H. Gisvold
Biography:
Born February 20, 1919, in Galesburg, North Dakota, Orlin Harold Gisvold was blessed to the union of Erick and Karoline Julia (nee Thorson) Gisvold.
Private Gisvold was with his brothers in Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion of the 2nd Marines (K-3/2) when they landed on Guadalcanal as part of Operation: WATCHTOWER. The mission of the 1st Marine Division was to secure the island in order to control the Japanese airstrip; thereby preventing the Japanese Imperial forces from getting closer to the United States, and enabling US forces to get closer to mainland Japan.
Wallace J. Gillespie
Biography:
Wallace J Gillespie was born in Dundee, Walsh County, North Dakota on August 30, 1920, to James Robertson Gillespie and Mary Duffy. He entered the United States Army at Fort Snelling, Minnesota on June 20, 1944, and served in the European African Middle Eastern Theater. Private First Class Gillespie was killed in action on March 30, 1945, in Germany; buried in Grave 9058, Block 9, Section C, Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota.
Norman F. Gillenberg
Biography:
Norman F. Gillenberg was born on June 5, 1923. He was employed by the Capitol theatre before entering the army in March 1943. He received his training at Camp Pickett, VA and was sent overseas. He landed with the invasion forces in Normandy and was wounded in action in France. He died on November 24, 1944 at the age of 21 and is now buried in Saint Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck, Burleigh County, North Dakota, USA.

Adolph C. Gerzewski
Biography:
Sergeant Gerszewski was born in Ardoch, North Dakota on April 5, 1912. He entered the US Army at Ft Snelling, Minnesota on March 21, 1942. He served in the European African Middle Eastern Theater and was killed in action on April 9, 1945, in Heilbronn, Germany. He is buried in Plot 2, Grave 5, Section 589 in the Cavalry Cemetery, Grand Forks, North Dakota. Following his death, he received a silver star and a purple heart and the U.S. Army base in Karlsruhe, West Germany was named in his honor - Gerszewski Barracks.
Herbert I. Gentz
Biography:
Herbert Irving Gentz was born in New England, Hettinger County, North Dakota on April 13, 1924, to Herbert William Gentz and Mary Angela Gehr Gentz. Private First Class Gentz entered the United States Army at Fort Snelling, Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 11, 1943, and served in the European African Middle Eastern Theater. He was killed in action in the English Channel in Belgium, Europe on December 25, 1944, and is buried in Lot 6, Block 45, Grave 3, New England Cemetery, New England, North Dakota.
