Private Lawrence "Larry" George Gerving was born in Glen Ullin, Morton County, North Dakota on January 16, 1921, to Henry Gerhard Gerving and Thresa M Duppong. He was married to Evelyn Thiel on September 9, 1941, and entered the United States Army at Fort MacArthur, California on June 23, 1944, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. Private Gerving was killed in action on June 20, 1945, at Okinawa Island. He is buried in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Plot 6, Row 6, Grave 18, Glen Ullin, North Dakota.
