Floyd was born August 16, 1922 in McKinnon Township, Foster County, on the Loder farm, which adjoined the Fousek farm. He graduated from Kensel High School in 1939. He was the son of Joseph and Effie Fousek.

He helped his father farm and entered the service November 12, 1942, going first to Fort Snelling, Minnesota and then to Camp Wolters, Texas. He was with the American Division and stationed in the Fijis, Bougainville and New Caledonia. While in the Phillipines, he met his death on Leyte, March 7, 1945

Clayton Erling Foss was born in Hawley, Clay County, Minnesota on August 27, 1921, to Erling and Mina Kristiansdatter Bakken Foss. He became a resident of Cass County, North Dakota and entered the United States Army at Fort Snelling, Minnesota on December 21, 1942.  He married Helena B. Clough. Private Foss served in the European African Middle Eastern Theater and died of wounds on May 6, 1945, in Via Cassia, Italy. He is buried in Plot F, Row 4, Grave 25, Florence American Cemetery and Memorial, Florence, Italy. Private Foss received the Purple Heart.

Major Fortin was born in Overly, North Dakota on May 8, 1920. He was a resident of Ramsey County, North Dakota when he entered the USAAF Ft Snelling, Minnesota, on May 22, 1941. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during WWII. He was the pilot of a C-47 that crashed during an emergency landing in a suburban area northwest of Chicago. He died in the crash, but the 2 passengers survived. At the time of his death, he was an assistant professor of air science and tactics at Northwestern University.
